Wave Rock in Australia: Billions-year-old granite rises like a giant wave
Located in Western Australia, Wave Rock attracts attention with its 15-meter height and 110-meter length, both for its geological history and its cultural significance.
Located near the town of Hyden in the Australian state of Western Australia, Wave Rock resembles a giant ocean wave about to crash onto the shore at first glance. However, this impressive appearance did not emerge through human hands, but as a result of geological processes spanning millions of years.
The granite rock, which is approximately 15 meters high and 110 meters long, is considered one of the world's most remarkable natural formations. According to scientists, the granite mass that forms the foundation of Wave Rock was created approximately 2.7 billion years ago.

TRACES OF WIND, WATER, AND CHEMICAL EROSION
According to geologists, the chemical weathering effect of groundwater on the granite was decisive in the formation taking its current shape. As the lower parts of the granite eroded over time, the disappearance of surrounding softer rocks through erosion made the large, inward-curving rock face visible.
The red, orange, yellow, and gray stripes on the rock also bear the traces of this long process. Rainwater dissolves minerals within the granite and carries them to the surface; iron minerals and carbonates leave colorful marks on the rock over time.

Located approximately 340 kilometers east of the city of Perth, Wave Rock welcomes more than 100 thousand visitors every year. The region stands out not only for its tourist and geological value but also for the cultural and spiritual importance it holds for Australia's indigenous Noongar people.
Known as "Katter Kich" by Noongar communities, the formation is considered sacred. For this reason, Wave Rock is seen as one of the important stops in Western Australia where nature, geology, and local culture intersect.
