American painter Bob Ross, known for his program 'The Joy of Painting', had his first television painting, 'A Walk in the Woods', sold for 9.8 million dollars at an auction in Minneapolis.

The painting, which was exhibited at the Modern Artifact art gallery, went to an anonymous buyer. This was the first of more than 400 paintings created by Ross, and he had painted it in just 30 minutes.

Ross, who was portrayed by Owen Wilson in a recently filmed movie, created the oil-on-canvas painting depicting a scene resembling autumn with a pond in the woods, complete with his signature written in red in the bottom left corner.

Gallery owner Ryan Nelson stated that he acquired the painting from a woman who worked on Bob Ross's own show, and that the idea to put it up for auction developed afterward.

Nelson remarked, "Bob Ross is the people's artist. Even though he passed away in 1995, he is still talked about all over the world. There are more than 350 thousand searches for Bob Ross on Google every month."

WHO IS BOB ROSS?

Bob Ross was born in Florida. He lost part of his left index finger while working in his father's carpentry shop and dropped out of school.

At the age of 18, he joined the US Air Force and rose to the rank of master sergeant. He went to Alaska for duty for a period, where he began to paint, having been captivated by the beauty of nature. Ross began producing The Joy of Painting program in 1983. In the program, he would create nature paintings in half an hour and teach viewers that painting is easy and fun. Ross's program became very popular among viewers due to his calm tone of voice and positive attitude.

Ross passed away in 1995 due to lymphoma. However, The Joy of Painting program is still being broadcast, and Ross's paintings are admired by millions of viewers.

Ross's paintings were generally created using simple techniques and happy colors. In his paintings, Ross typically used natural elements such as mountains, trees, lakes, and rivers. Ross's paintings are very popular among viewers for their positive energy and calming effects.

Ross's legacy is that he made the art of painting accessible to everyone through The Joy of Painting program.
