182 people released following May 1 detentions
It has been reported that 182 of the 217 people detained for attempting to march to Taksim Square during the May 1 Labor Day demonstrations in Istanbul have been released.
The government, which blockaded Taksim Square on May 1, had closed all roads leading to the area. Following this, 217 people who wanted to march from Saraçhane to Taksim were detained on the grounds that they had attacked the police.
It was stated that 182 people whose processing was completed at the police station have been released. The remaining 35 suspects are expected to be referred to the courthouse today.
