AKOM issues warning: Heavy downpours in Istanbul
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has announced that short-term, local thunderstorms are expected in the eastern districts of the city after midday.
AKOM has announced that heavy rainfall is expected in Istanbul after midday. According to the information provided, short-term and local thunderstorms are expected in the eastern districts of Istanbul, such as Pendik, Sultanbeyli, Tuzla, and Şile, following the noon hours.
The statement noted that while the wind blowing intermittently from the north (northeasterly) at strong speeds (10-45 kilometers/hour) brings a cooling effect to the city, temperatures are expected to remain between 31 and 34 degrees throughout the week.
The statement further indicated that local, short-term, heavy thunderstorms are also expected starting from the early hours of tomorrow, and it was noted that air temperatures in Istanbul are forecast to remain 2 to 5 degrees above seasonal norms until July 24.
