Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya provided information regarding the accidents that occurred on the first day of Eid al-Adha in a post on his social media account.
Minister Yerlikaya stated the following:
On the 1st day of Eid al-Adha (Friday), 692 traffic accidents occurred. Unfortunately, 7 of our citizens lost their lives at the scene of these accidents. 1,128 of our citizens were injured. I wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to our injured. During Eid al-Adha, our Police and Gendarmerie Traffic Teams are taking the necessary precautions for the safety of our citizens and are continuing their inspections with great sensitivity.
12 THOUSAND 407 VEHICLES PROCESSED
According to the data from our Ministry of Transport on the 1st day of Eid al-Adha; 2 million 232 thousand 715 vehicles used the highways. On the 1st day of the holiday, our traffic teams processed 12 thousand 407 of these vehicles for speeding and radar violations. The rate is 0.56%. I would like to thank each and every one of our drivers who comply with traffic rules by not speeding, which accounts for 99.44%.
I sincerely believe that the remaining 0.56% will act more carefully, will not speed, and will not risk their own lives, the lives of their loved ones, or the lives of innocent people. They, too, will join our 99.44% of drivers who follow the rules.
GOAL: TO REDUCE LOSS OF LIFE TO ZERO
Our inspections are not for the purpose of issuing penalties, but to prevent accidents and reduce our loss of life to zero. Let us follow traffic rules so that our holiday joy is not mixed with sorrow.
