Attention tractor and motorcycle drivers! New traffic regulation: Penalties for non-compliance

The Ministry of Interior has implemented a comprehensive amendment to the Highway Traffic Regulation. According to the changes published in the Official Gazette today, technical information and legal updates required by the General Directorate of Security (EGM) for maintaining driver and vehicle records can now be provided electronically not only by public institutions but also by professional organizations with public institution status and private legal entities.

The transfer of driver's license and registration data to the EGM will also be carried out via an electronic system. It was stated that, except for exceptions specified in the laws, the relevant institutions may only share this data within the framework of the stated purpose.

GLOVES AND GOGGLES MANDATORY

It has now become mandatory for drivers of bicycles, electric bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, and T3-type tractors produced after 2001 (excluding three-wheeled cargo motorcycles and those with enclosed bodies) to use protective helmets and protective goggles.

In the same scope, a requirement has been introduced for both drivers and passengers carried in the back of motorcycles—excluding three-wheeled cargo motorcycles and vehicles with enclosed bodies—to wear protective gloves. The helmet requirement for passengers remains in effect.

PENALTY FOR NOT USING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

It was reiterated that the administrative fine to be imposed for failure to use the protective equipment mandated for safety is 993 Turkish Lira.
