Back-to-back earthquakes in Amasya

According to information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), two consecutive earthquakes occurred in the Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya. The first tremor was recorded at 12:23 with a magnitude of 4.4, and the second earthquake was recorded just three minutes later at 12:26 with a magnitude of 4.2.

It was stated that the earthquakes occurred at depths of approximately 10.07 kilometers and 19 kilometers, respectively. The tremors were felt in the center of Amasya and surrounding districts and provinces, primarily in Gümüşhacıköy.

Due to the earthquakes, citizens took to the streets in panic. In the Gümüşhacıköy district center in particular, citizens were seen waiting in open areas for some time. While no loss of life or serious damage has been reported, the tremors caused short-term fear and anxiety.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR

Amasya Governor Önder Bakan stated regarding the earthquakes, "Thankfully, there are no negative reports reaching us. AFAD and our other relevant institutions have rapidly initiated field scanning work in the region. We convey our best wishes to our citizens," he said.

SCHOOLS CLOSED IN TWO DISTRICTS

Following the earthquakes, education was suspended for one day in the Gümüşhacıköy and Hamamözü districts as a precautionary measure.
