Barbaros Şansal detained
Renowned fashion designer Barbaros Şansal announced on his social media account that he was detained at Istanbul Airport. It was reported that Şansal was taken into custody to provide a statement in accordance with an arrest warrant.
Fashion designer Barbaros Şansal was detained at Istanbul Airport on May 10. Şansal announced the development to his followers on his social media account. In a brief post, Şansal stated that the detention process took place at the airport.
DETAINED PURSUANT TO AN ARREST WARRANT
Following Şansal's detention, journalist Onur Öncü also made a statement regarding the matter. In a post on his social media account, Öncü stated that he had spoken with Şansal and conveyed that the detention was "for the purpose of an arrest."
Noting that Barbaros Şansal told him, "I will be giving a statement," journalist Öncü indicated that the procedure might have been initiated due to a criminal complaint or report.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Şansal was also detained at Istanbul Airport in 2024 and was released after providing his statement.
In 2017, Şansal, who was deported from the TRNC due to his social media posts, was attacked after landing in Istanbul. While 12 of the 13 individuals who attacked Şansal were acquitted, one attacker was sentenced to a fine.
