ÇEDES through the eyes of Minister Tekin... It's not religious education, it's a club activity!
CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel brought the ÇEDES project, which has been met with public backlash, to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Responding to the motion, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that the ÇEDES project is not a form of religious education.
CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel submitted a parliamentary question for Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin to answer.
According to the report in Cumhuriyet, Yücel asked about practices within the scope of the ÇEDES project, such as spiritual advisors giving lectures to children in İzmir, children being made to clean graves and mosques in provinces like Tekirdağ, Batman, Bitlis, Kars, and Muş, a model of the Kaaba being set up in a classroom for students to practice the stoning of the devil, and a model grave being set up at a school to teach the concept of patience.
"THEY ARE EXTRACURRICULAR CLUB ACTIVITIES"
Responding to the motion, Tekin said, "The ÇEDES project is not religious education. It is an extracurricular club activity supported by officials from three official institutions with parental consent, focusing on core values included in the curriculum."
