Prison sentence sought for comedian Yavuz Kırma for insulting religious values
Comedian Yavuz Kırma, known by the stage name Yavuz Günal, faces a prison sentence of 6 months to 1 year on allegations of insulting religious values.
The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Yavuz Kırma due to his remarks regarding religious events and prophets. The process began with a report filed with the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was transferred to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office following a decision of lack of jurisdiction.
The prepared indictment states that Kırma performs under the stage name "Yavuz Günal" and, during a show, recounted religious events in a humorous manner using the film "The Message" (Çağrı). It was noted that Kırma, who shared a video of this performance on his social media account, mockingly described the migration (Hijra) event in the film, which covers the birth of Islam, as well as events related to Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Musa.
The prosecution has requested that Kırma be sentenced to 6 months to 1 year in prison for the crime of 'publicly insulting the religious values adopted by a segment of the public.'
The indictment has been sent to the Anatolian Criminal Court of First Instance and is awaiting evaluation.
