Demand for milk price hike

The Association of All Milk, Meat and Breeding Cattle Breeders announced that the production cost of 1 liter of cooled raw milk was calculated at 17.54 TL/liter in July and that, based on this, the recommended price should be announced as 21.05 TL/liter.

The association stated that recent hikes in feed, electricity, and diesel prices have increased production costs.

According to TÜSEDAD, the increases in electricity and diesel prices, in particular, caused a 3.2 percent rise in raw milk production costs. Furthermore, declines in the slaughter prices of culled cows and heifers have negatively impacted the income of milk producers.

The National Milk Council (USK) had set the recommended price at 14.65 TL/liter, effective from May 1, 2024. During this period, a difference of 22 kuruş will be applied for every 0.1 change in the fat and protein ratios used as a base.

TÜSEDAD's request calls for a 43.6 percent hike in the recommended price of milk.

NATIONAL MILK COUNCIL HAD KEPT THE PRICE STABLE

The Board of Directors of the National Milk Council had stated in its announcement that it was decided "to continue the implementation of the current raw milk recommended price at 14.65, based on an evaluation taking into account current market conditions and costs."

The Council announced that the raw milk recommended price would be evaluated in 3-month periods moving forward.
