District governor's office bans solidarity event for Deniz Göktaş in Kadıköy
The Kadıköy District Governor's Office has banned outdoor events in the district due to the planned event for Deniz Göktaş at Yoğurtçu Park.
The screening of “Dead Sea” (Ölü Deniz), which was planned to be held at Kadıköy Yoğurtçu Park in solidarity with the imprisoned comedian Deniz Göktaş, has been banned by the decision of the Kadıköy District Governor's Office.
The event, which was announced by SOL Genç on social media, was scheduled to take place at Yoğurtçu Park on Saturday, July 4, at 20:00. The announcement stated, “We stand with our artist friend Deniz Göktaş,” and noted that screenings would be held in Istanbul and Bursa.
In a statement released in the morning, the Kadıköy District Governor's Office claimed that the event could “cause public outrage” and “touch upon national and conscientious values.”
ONE-DAY BAN ON OUTDOOR EVENTS
In its statement, the District Governor's Office noted that calls for gatherings at Yoğurtçu Park had been detected, arguing that there was strong evidence that if the activity were to take place, it could “threaten social peace,” “lead to provocative incidents,” and endanger the rights and freedoms of others.
Under the scope of the decision, all outdoor events within the borders of the Kadıköy district have been halted. According to the statement, the ban will be in effect from 08:00 on July 4, 2026, until 23:59 on July 5, 2026.
It was reported that during this period, activities such as meetings, press statements, rallies, marches, sit-ins, hanging posters, and setting up stands on streets, avenues, squares, and main arteries in Kadıköy are prohibited in accordance with laws No. 2911 and No. 5442.
