Femicide in Adıyaman: Man kills wife in front of their children, then commits suicide

A dispute broke out for reasons yet to be determined between Merve Daşcan (25) and her husband Ekrem Daşcan (36) at their home on Kahramanlar Street in the Bahçelievler neighborhood of Adıyaman city center.

Following the argument, Ekrem Daşcan, having suffered a mental breakdown, chased his wife with a handgun he had grabbed. Catching his wife at the entrance of their home, Ekrem Daşcan shot Merve Daşcan in the head. After killing his wife, Ekrem Daşcan then took his own life with the same gun beside her body.

Citizens who heard the gunshots and the screams of the 1, 4, and 7-year-old children in the house rushed to the scene and notified the police. Police teams arriving at the scene determined that Merve and Ekrem Daşcan had lost their lives.

Following the investigations conducted by the police teams and the public prosecutor who arrived at the scene, the bodies of Merve and Ekrem Daşcan were taken to the Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, the children who witnessed the atrocity were taken from the scene by police teams.

Following the incident, police teams took security measures at the morgue to prevent any potential conflict or negative incidents between the families of Merve and Ekrem Daşcan.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
