Final hours for NATO measures: When will roads in Ankara reopen?

The traffic measures implemented in Ankara due to the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government are nearing their end. According to the announcement by the Ankara Governor's Office, roads closed around the Presidential Complex will remain closed to vehicle traffic until 23:59 on Wednesday, July 8.

Following the end of the measures, roads are expected to be gradually reopened to traffic based on security assessments. The Governor's Office has requested that drivers follow the directions of traffic teams and prefer alternative routes.

WHICH AREAS ARE UNDER MEASURES?

According to the Governor's Office statement, closures are in effect at numerous points, including parts of the Presidential Boulevard, Presidential Street, Beştepe Street, Söğütözü Street, Alparslan Türkeş Street, Bahriye Üçok Street, and Sakıp Sabancı Boulevard around the Presidential Complex.

Certain sections of Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu Street, the part of Şehit Öğretmen Şenay Aybüke Yalçın Street between İsmail Karakaya Street and Söğütözü Street, and the section of Sakıp Sabancı Boulevard between Beştepe Street and AŞTİ are also among the routes covered by the measures.

Traffic measures in the hotel districts of Çankaya and Yenimahalle, where delegations are staying, also began at 07:00 on July 6. It was reported that these applications will also continue until 23:59 on July 8.

There are no permanent closures on the protocol routes that will be used by heads of state and government. Routes such as certain sections of the Ankara Ring Road, Özal Boulevard, İsmet İnönü Boulevard, Ankara Boulevard, Anadolu Boulevard, Dumlupınar Boulevard, Mevlana Boulevard, Atatürk Boulevard, Cinnah Street, Çankaya Street, Simon Bolivar Street, and John F. Kennedy Street are being closed to traffic for short periods during convoy passages.

Suggested alternatives for drivers include Turan Güneş Boulevard, Şehit Savcı Mehmet Selim Kiraz Boulevard, and Dikmen Street instead of Mevlana Boulevard; and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Boulevard and İstanbul Street for entries to Mevlana Boulevard from the Akköprü direction.

For drivers who will use Anadolu Boulevard, Melih Gökçek Boulevard, Şaşmaz Boulevard, İvedik Street, and Serhat Street; for Atatürk Boulevard, Necatibey Street and Mithatpaşa Street; and for Ankara Boulevard, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Boulevard, Başkent Boulevard, and Bağdat Street have been shown as alternatives. Closed roads and alternative routes can also be followed via the digital traffic map prepared by the Directorate of Communications.
