Fine imposed on famous furniture company
Kilim Mobilya has been fined 550 thousand liras by the Ministry of Trade for using misleading price discounts in its advertisements.
The Advertising Board of the Ministry of Trade evaluated a complaint filed against one of Turkey's leading furniture giants, Kilim Mobilya, on the grounds that one of its advertisements was unfair and misleading.
According to the advertisement published on the company's website, it was stated that a sofa set would be sold for 30 thousand 495 liras, down from its original price of 40 thousand 361 liras.
However, as a result of the investigations, it was revealed that the product had never been sold for 40 thousand 361 liras and that the 'discounted price' featured in the advertisement did not reflect a genuine discount.
FAILED TO PROVE IT WAS THE 'LOWEST PRICE'
It was also assessed that the advertisement did not specify the start and end dates of the campaign or stock information, and that the crossed-out price of 40 thousand 361 liras could not be proven to be the lowest price within the 30 days prior to the advertisement date.
As a result of these findings, the company was issued an administrative fine of 550 thousand 059 liras for acting in violation of the relevant articles. Furthermore, it was decided that the relevant advertisement must be removed from publication.
