Following the announcement that the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei lost his life in attacks by the US and Israel against Iran, a 40-day national mourning period was declared across Iran.

In accordance with this decision, flags were lowered to half-mast at the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran located in the Fatih district of Istanbul.

TENSIONS ESCALATE IN THE REGION

Israel and the US launched a military operation against Iran on February 28, while diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington were ongoing.

In response to the attacks, Iran struck targets in Israel as well as in several regional countries, primarily Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, where US military bases are located.
