Frightening fire in Bursa: Spreads to residential areas

A forest fire broke out for reasons yet to be determined in the rural area of İsmetiye Neighborhood in Bursa's central Osmangazi district around noon. The fire, which started near the Demirtaş Viaduct on the Istanbul-Ankara Highway, grew rapidly and began to threaten residential areas. Great panic ensued as the flames reached the gardens of houses in the neighborhood.

SPREAD BY THE WIND, HOUSES EVACUATED

The fire, which grew rapidly under the influence of strong winds, passed through olive groves and scrubland to reach the forest, and from there, it spread to the houses in the neighborhood. As the fire could not be brought under control, evacuations were initiated in İsmetiye Neighborhood. Police and gendarmerie teams took security measures in the surrounding area.

Neighborhood residents experienced great fear as the fire approached their homes. Citizens who left their houses described the panic they experienced in tears. Images from the fire zone caused a great stir on social media.

INTENSIVE INTERVENTION FROM AIR AND GROUND

The fire is being fought by 2 helicopters, 14 fire trucks, 36 work and service vehicles, and 137 personnel. Additionally, 1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is being used in the region for reconnaissance and guidance purposes. Some volunteer citizens are also supporting the extinguishing efforts.

THOSE TRAPPED IN THE FOREST RESCUED

An operation was launched to rescue farmers who were trapped in the wooded area with their tractors during the fire. The citizens, who were rescued alive by the teams, were moved to safe areas by AFAD. Some neighborhood residents affected by smoke received initial intervention in ambulances waiting at the scene.
