He wore a chador to shoot his ex-wife and kill her lover

Abidin Uçar, who wore a black chador and a veil by family decision in Adana to kill Yusuf Gença, with whom his ex-wife was living, and severely wounded his ex-wife Hilal Şahin, said he committed the murder under pressure from his father-in-law and brother-in-law. Hilal Şahin, who attended the hearing, said, "People in veils came in and fired. Thinking I was dying, he recited the shahada over me. I recognized from his voice that it was my ex-husband, Abidin."

On June 9, 2022, in the Yenibey Neighborhood of the central Seyhan district, two people, one in a black chador and the other wearing a hat, arrived in front of the home of Yusuf Gença, who lived on the second floor of a 3-story building. The suspects rang the doorbell, fired repeatedly with a handgun at Gença, who opened the door, and the woman he was living with, Hilal Şahin, and then fled the scene. While Gença lost his life, Hilal Şahin was taken to the hospital.

A special team established within the Murder Bureau determined that Hilal Şahin had left her ex-husband Abidin Uçar, with whom she had disputes, two years ago to move in with Yusuf Gença, and had subsequently divorced. The teams also determined that Hilal Şahin's family had pressured her to either leave Yusuf Gença or marry him.

HE WORE A CHADOR BEFORE THE ATTACK

It was determined that on the day of the incident, the uncle Musa Şahin had brought Abidin Uçar, who was wearing a black chador, and A.D., who was wearing a hat, to a park near the house by car. It was determined that Uçar and A.D. walked down the street arm-in-arm to avoid attracting attention, acting like a family, and then went to Yusuf Gença's house. The suspect A.D. rang the doorbell, and upon the door being opened, Abidin Uçar entered and fired first at Yusuf Gença, who was with his ex-wife, and then at his ex-wife Hilal Şahin before fleeing. While Gença died, Hilal Şahin was severely wounded.

TRIAL CONTINUED

The investigation was completed regarding Abidin Uçar, A.D., Hacı Şahin, Musa Şahin, Şahan Şahin, and Biran Şahin, who were captured and arrested after the incident, as well as Mehmet Sait Sızmaz and his wife Meltem Sızmaz, who were released under judicial control. The prosecutor prepared an indictment requesting aggravated life imprisonment for the defendants for the crimes of "premeditated murder with the motive of honor" and "attempted murder," as well as up to 20 years in prison each. The case, accepted by the Adana 6th High Criminal Court, continued.

'MY WIFE RAN OFF WITH MY CHILDHOOD FRIEND'

Defendant Abidin Uçar said that his wife of 10 years, Hilal Şahin, had run off with Yusuf Gença, a childhood friend. Claiming that his wife had fallen into a bad lifestyle after 3-5 months had passed, Uçar said, "I wrote to Yusuf several times on social media, saying, 'Don't lead her into a bad lifestyle.' Yusuf replied, 'She is my property, it doesn't concern you.' Later, I took my children with me. There were bruises on my daughter's body. Yusuf had sexually abused my daughter. My daughter has a statement to this effect at the police station."

'YOU WILL SHOOT THEM IN THE LEGS'

Claiming that his father-in-law Hacı Şahin had learned that his daughter Hilal had fallen into a bad lifestyle and told him, "You will shoot them in the legs," Abidin Uçar said the following in his defense:

"I used drugs at that time. Hacı Şahin told his brother Musa, 'Take us to the park.' I, A.D., Hacı Şahin, and Musa Şahin were in the car. I stopped the vehicle to buy cigarettes. I bought a chador. Hacı Şahin also gave me the gun. Then we went to Yusuf's address. A.D. rang the bell. When I saw Yusuf, I fired randomly. I went inside; Hilal was crying on the floor. I went to her and fired randomly at her too. Then we left the house. I changed my clothes on the street."
