Horrifying incident in Kayseri: Illegal circumcision ruins 7-year-old boy's life

A horrifying incident has occurred in Kayseri.

According to a report by Ali Altuntaş from the Sabah newspaper, Y.B. took his 7-year-old son, F.E.B., who was entering the 2nd grade of primary school, to a health clinic on July 18 to have him circumcised.

DESPITE THE MINISTRY'S BAN...

The health officer working there, H.Ç., demanded 3,500 liras for the circumcision. After agreeing on the price, the circumcision was performed at the health clinic, despite a ban by the Ministry of Health.

It is alleged that the health officer sent the child home, even though he should have been monitored for 24 hours following the procedure.

The young boy's penis, which became gangrenous due to the illegal circumcision, had to be amputated.

"SWELLING AND BRUISING OCCURRED"

Speaking after the incident, Y.B. stated, "The bandage applied was supposed to be removed after 24 hours. Since we didn't know, we didn't remove it. That is why swelling and bruising occurred."

HE SAID "SWELLING IS NORMAL"

Explaining that they reached the health officer 3 days later, Y.B. said the man told them, "Sit the child in water and remove the bandage. Nothing will happen. The swelling is normal."

HE THREATENED HIM BY SAYING 'I WILL CUT IT OFF AT THE ROOT'...

Adding that they could not remove a part of the bandage because it was tied too tightly, the father said, "When my sister, who came to the house while I was at work, noticed the bruising, she took him to the health clinic. The health officer, H.Ç., ripped the bandage off my son while he was screaming. I took him to the health clinic again in the morning. He again claimed that nothing was wrong, that the boy was just being difficult, and said, 'Leave him at home and go to work.' He had scared my son by saying, 'Don't tell your father anything, or I will cut it off at the root.' I told him, 'I am going to a pediatrician, and I will file a complaint against you.'"

Y.B. described the rest of the incident as follows:

"Upon this, he sent us to a doctor he had arranged himself in a car. When we were about to enter the hospital, he called on the phone and said, 'If the police ask who performed the circumcision, say you had it done by someone passing by on the road.' At the hospital, my son's penis, which was determined to be gangrenous, was amputated through surgery. He underwent 3 operations. He has been in intensive care for days. His life is still in danger. The Ministry of Health has banned circumcisions outside of hospitals. I didn't know. H.Ç. has ruined my son's future. I will file a complaint."

HE HAD PREVIOUSLY FACED 2 INVESTIGATIONS

It was learned that two complaints had been filed against the health officer, H.Ç., previously due to other circumcisions he had performed, and that administrative investigations had been launched.

The Ministry of Health had banned the performance of circumcisions in health clinics with a circular issued in 2015.
