The Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) has issued a statement regarding claims circulating on social media that "sewage water has mixed with Istanbul's tap water." The institution stated that the posts in question do not reflect the truth.
In its statement, İSKİ noted that the drinking water supplied to Istanbul is regularly checked at all stages from the source until it reaches the consumer. It was stated that an average of 3 million 200 thousand cubic meters of drinking water is subjected to quality analysis daily in the city.
The institution noted that samples taken in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Health's "Regulation on Water Intended for Human Consumption" are analyzed in accredited laboratories, and that parameters regarding water quality are monitored 24/7 via online monitoring systems.
The statement emphasized that the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate also regularly takes water samples from different points in 39 districts and that independent audits are ongoing. İSKİ stated, "It is out of the question for water that does not meet the quality criteria determined in the current legislation to be supplied to Istanbul's drinking water network."
Stating that treatment, monitoring, and inspection activities continue to ensure that 16 million Istanbul residents have access to healthy and reliable drinking water, İSKİ called on citizens to rely on statements made through the institution's official communication channels instead of posts with unknown sources on social media.
