Landslide in Artvin: 6 villages cut off
A highway has been closed to traffic following a landslide in the Ardanuç district of Artvin. Work has begun on the road that provides access to 6 villages.
Heavy snowfall and rain triggered a landslide in the Ardanuç district of Artvin. The landslide occurred in the morning at the 12th kilometer of the group road connecting the villages of Avcılar, Akarsu, Gümüşhane, Okumuşlar, Derinköy, and Ağıllar to the district.
Giant rock fragments and soil that broke off from the hillside completely blocked the road to traffic. Citizens who wanted to travel from their villages to the district early in the morning noticed the road was closed and reported the situation to the authorities.
Following the landslide, work was initiated by Provincial Special Administration teams to reopen the road to traffic. Authorities issued a warning to be cautious against landslides in the region.
