Life-and-death struggle in Erzurum: Fog and icing cause pile-up

In Aşkale, Erzurum, visibility decreased significantly in the morning hours as dense fog intensified. Consequently, a multi-vehicle traffic accident involving light commercial vehicles and semi-trucks occurred at the Gökçebük Village junction.

Following the accident, Aşkale medical teams, the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Aşkale Fire Department, gendarmerie, and police teams were dispatched to the area. Additionally, numerous ambulances and UMKE (National Medical Rescue Team) units from central Erzurum were directed to the scene.

While some vehicles sustained heavy damage in the crash, teams made intensive efforts to rescue those trapped inside. The injured, who were extracted from the vehicles through the meticulous work of the fire department, were handed over to medical teams. According to initial reports, 8 people are in critical condition.

The injured were transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance after receiving initial treatment at the scene. Due to the accident, the road was closed to traffic in a controlled manner for a period of time.

Authorities issued warnings for drivers to reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, and drive more cautiously in areas affected by fog and icing. An investigation into the accident has been launched.
