Meteorology issues warning: Downpours in the north, storms in Marmara

The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) reported in its weather forecast for August 13, 2026, that downpours and thunderstorms are expected in the northern parts of the country and some regions of the Mediterranean. According to the report, rainfall is expected to be locally heavy, particularly in the vicinity of Sinop, Samsun, Ordu, and Giresun.

According to the MGM's assessment, local downpours will be seen in the eastern part of the Marmara region, the Taurus Mountains section of the Mediterranean, the entire Black Sea region, the north of Eastern Anatolia, the inland parts of Çanakkale, the north of Balıkesir, Osmaniye, Kırıkkale, the north and east of Ankara, and the surroundings of Yozgat and Çankırı. In other regions, the weather is expected to be mostly clear and sunny.

STRONG WIND AND RAINFALL WARNING

The wind is expected to blow generally from northern directions, and from southern directions in the southeastern parts, at light to occasionally moderate speeds. In the Marmara and North Aegean regions, the wind is expected to be strong and occasionally reach storm force, with speeds of 60-80 kilometers per hour.

Air temperatures are expected to decrease slightly in the northern parts, with no significant changes elsewhere. Temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal norms in the southern parts and around seasonal norms in other regions.

According to regional forecasts, intermittent downpours and thunderstorms are expected in Istanbul, and local downpours are expected in Bursa during the afternoon. The weather will be mostly clear and sunny in İzmir and Muğla, and partly cloudy in Antalya. In Ankara, there is a possibility of local downpours in the northern and eastern parts in the afternoon.

Rainy weather will be effective over a wide area in the Black Sea region. While intermittent downpours are expected throughout the Western Black Sea region, rainfall is expected to be heavy in the vicinity of Sinop. In the Central and Eastern Black Sea regions, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Samsun, Ordu, and Giresun.

The weather is expected to be mostly clear and sunny in Southeastern Anatolia. Temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees in Diyarbakır and 41 degrees in Şanlıurfa, while they are expected to be measured at 40 degrees in Antalya and 38 degrees in İzmir and Muğla.
