Prison for sale in Giresun

Following the closure of the Keşap Open Penal Institution in Giresun in 2018, the former prison building and its land were recently announced for sale by the Giresun Provincial Special Administration via tender.

The price for the real estate put up for sale by tender has been set at 19 million 750 thousand TL.

'IT SHOULD BE BROUGHT INTO PUBLIC USE' REACTION

Keşap CHP Provincial General Assembly Member Özgür Karaosman stated in his remarks on the matter that they do not find the sale of the building and land in question to be appropriate. Karaosman said, "This is not the first time this place has been offered for sale. It was put up for sale by tender last year as well, but it was later stated that it would be turned into courthouse housing. If it goes to tender, any contractor with the money can buy this place. However, we advocate for this area to be brought into public use, for example, by transferring it to public institutions such as a student dormitory. We believe that the sale of the prison is a situation that could be resolved through inter-institutional transfer procedures."

Karaosman also emphasized that the decision to put the prison up for sale along with its land has been met with backlash from the local community, and that selling such public areas through tenders is not the right approach.

TENDER ON DECEMBER 30, 2024

On the other hand, the announcement published on ilan.gov.tr stated that the Giresun Provincial Special Administration will carry out the sale of the property using the Sealed Bid Tender Method, and it was announced that the tender will take place on December 30, 2024. A criminal record check will also be among the documents required from those participating in the tender.
