Schools have opened, a new era begins on the Istanbul metro

With the start of the 2026-2027 academic year in Istanbul, the metro system has transitioned to its winter schedule. Metro İstanbul announced that the winter timetable will be in effect across all lines as of today (September 14).

Under the new planning, service intervals throughout the day will be reorganized, taking passenger density into account. According to Metro İstanbul's statement, 512 additional trips will be added to the daily service count.

The regulation aims to create an additional passenger capacity of approximately 492 thousand 390 people. Metro İstanbul anticipates that the increased capacity will reduce the burden on urban traffic and could contribute to removing approximately 426 thousand vehicles from the road.

The transition to the winter schedule does not mean changes to the first and last train times. It was stated that the changes will primarily be applied to service frequencies during the day. Passengers will be able to access up-to-date service information via the Metro İstanbul website and information screens at stations.

As part of the first day of the new academic year, holders of personalized Istanbulkarts will be able to use public transport vehicles included in the integration for free between 06:00 and 16:00 on Monday, September 14. The application also covers all metro lines operated by Metro İstanbul.
