Mehmet Ali Erbil had previously explained that he went to Malta for an opening, stating, "This has nothing to do with career or age. Even prominent professors are deceived. Our judgment was clouded as well. I am ashamed to be here due to such a disgraceful crime." However, Ceylan's statements have raised further questions regarding his claims.
