The 9-day search ends in tragedy: Little Osman found dead, mother still missing

The lifeless body of 5-year-old Osman Helvacı, who disappeared nine days ago along with his mother, Huriye Helvacı, in the Bozkurt district of Kastamonu, has been found.

According to information reported by TRT Haber, search operations for the mother, Huriye Helvacı, are still underway.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Huriye Helvacı, a married mother of two living in Bozkurt, had not been heard from since she left home with her 5-year-old son, Osman, on November 2.

Following a missing persons report filed by their relatives, AFAD, UMKE, gendarmerie, police, and commando teams were dispatched to the area.

The search efforts had reached their ninth day today.

Teams were searching for traces of the mother and son with aerial drone support and search and rescue dogs on the ground.

SEARCH CONDUCTED AT THE GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE

As the investigation expanded, a search was also conducted at the house in Yaşarlı village where Huriye Helvacı's mother resides.

The house, garden, and surrounding structures were examined one by one in a scan supported by search and rescue dogs and thermal drones.

No findings related to the mother and son were encountered during these searches.

NARROWED BASE STATION ANALYSIS APPLIED

In the latest operation conducted by the teams yesterday, narrowed base station analysis was put into effect.

The method, which was previously used in the Narin Güran murder case in Diyarbakır, was also applied for Huriye Helvacı and her son.

According to data received from GSM operators, it was determined that the last signal from the mother's phone was received from an area of approximately one kilometer located between the villages of Köseali, Alantepe, and Kocaçam.

AFAD, UMKE, and JAK teams, along with thermal drones, had intensified their search efforts in the shallow forested area located in this region.
