In the tragic incident that occurred on April 23 on Şehit Polis Mahmut Ava Street in the Kışla neighborhood of Osmaniye's Toprakkale district, 6-year-old Özlem Ü. was electrocuted while trying to wash her hands in the irrigation canal passing right next to their home. Her mother, Cennet Ü. (37), who tried to save her young daughter, was also electrocuted and severely injured. Despite all interventions at Toprakkale State Hospital, where they were taken by private vehicle by local citizens, the mother and daughter lost their lives.

4 OF THE 9 DETAINED INDIVIDUALS ARRESTED

The Osmaniye Governor's Office shared the following information in a statement regarding the incident: "As a result of the investigation initiated by our Osmaniye Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was assessed that electrical cables were damaged and caused a leakage of electrical current during excavation work carried out by a natural gas company near the scene of the incident; 9 individuals were apprehended and detained under the instructions of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."

The 9 suspects, whose procedures at the police station were completed, were referred to the courthouse. While 4 of the suspects were arrested for 'causing death by negligence,' 5 others were released under judicial control.
