1.3 million dollar gold sculptures stolen: Thieves rob art exhibition

It was announced that 49 gold artworks created by Italian sculptor Umberto Mastroianni were stolen from an exhibition near Lake Garda in Italy on the night of Wednesday, March 6.

A spokesperson for Vittoriale degli Italiani, which hosted the exhibition, stated that 49 artworks worth 1.2 million Euros (more than 1.3 million US Dollars) had been stolen.

According to a report on CNN, it was reported that one of the pieces titled 'Uomo/Donna' (Man/Woman) was later found on the grounds of the exhibition complex, but the other 48 pieces are still missing. It was also stated that the investigation into the theft is ongoing.

The exhibition titled 'Like hot, fluid gold' opened at the end of December and was scheduled to close on Friday.

The president of the estate, Giordano Bruno Guerri, expressed his belief that the theft was 'the work of a highly specialized gang.'

According to AFP, Guerri said, "Our alarm systems are very comprehensive and already at the highest level; we were clearly hit by a highly specialized gang."
