1 person lost their life in 7.6 magnitude earthquake in the Philippines

It was stated that 1 person lost their life in the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday near the Mindanao region in the south of the Philippines.

Speaking to AP, Disaster Risk Reduction Agency Head Shieldon Isidoro said that some people were injured while fleeing their homes due to the tremors in the Davao del Norte region of Mindanao.

PREGNANT WOMAN LOST HER LIFE

Isidoro stated that a pregnant woman among those fleeing, along with her husband and daughter, were trapped under a 15-meter concrete wall that collapsed during the earthquake, and that the pregnant woman lost her life.

Noting that the woman's husband and daughter were taken to the hospital, Isidoro also recorded that hundreds of patients were evacuated from a hospital in the region, but were sent back after inspections determined there was no damage to the building.

Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. also said in a press conference that, according to initial assessments, the earthquake did not cause major damage other than power outages.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake occurred yesterday near the Mindanao region, and a tsunami warning had been issued following the earthquake.

After the earthquake, aftershocks occurred, the majority of which were greater than 5 in magnitude.
