11,000-pound internet bill leads to resignation

Scottish Health Secretary Michael Matheson has resigned due to an 11,000-pound internet bill on a tablet allocated for parliamentary work! Following the scandal that broke out in November 2022, the truth came to light under public pressure.

Matheson had used the iPad provided by the state when he traveled to Morocco with his family during the 2022 Christmas holiday. However, the use of the tablet by his children to watch matches resulted in a data roaming bill of 10,935 pounds.

After the incident emerged, Matheson had claimed that the tablet was not used for anything other than parliamentary work. However, public backlash and an ongoing investigation revealed the facts.

HE BLAMED HIS WIFE

Initially, Matheson argued that the reason for the high bill was a SIM card update and that it was a legitimate parliamentary expense, but he later admitted that his wife had used the tablet's internet for their children to watch matches.

The Health Secretary agreed to pay 3,000 pounds of the bill, but an investigation was launched against him due to the remaining amount. Matheson agreed to reimburse the state and resigned without waiting for the results of the Scottish Parliament's inquiry.

Matheson's resignation was submitted to First Minister Humza Yousaf. In his resignation letter, Matheson stated that he was resigning so as not to turn the government's agenda into a distraction. Yousaf told Matheson that "it is best to resign now so that you can give the government's agenda the attention it deserves."
