An Air India passenger plane that took off from Ahmedabad yesterday bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff.

While most of the 242 people on board lost their lives, the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu announced that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The Tata Group stated in a post on social media that approximately 115 thousand dollars will be paid to the families who lost their loved ones in the crash and that the medical expenses of the injured will be covered. Furthermore, it was stated that support will be provided for the reconstruction of the BJ Medical College, which was damaged in the crash.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the region where the crash occurred, met with the injured, and delivered a message of support.

It was announced that the majority of the passengers on the plane were citizens of India and the United Kingdom. Following the crash, it was reported that one of the plane's black boxes had been recovered.
