12 percent price hike on the way for Schengen visas

The European Commission has confirmed that the cost of a Schengen visa will increase within the month of June.

According to a report by Euronews, there will be a 12 percent increase in the visa fee.

The base fee for a Schengen visa will rise from 80 Euros to 90 Euros for adults, and from 40 Euros to 45 Euros for children.

The commission, which blames inflation in member countries for the price hike, states that the fees are still "relatively low" when compared to visa fees in other countries.

Schengen countries include EU member states, excluding Ireland and Cyprus, as well as Romania and Bulgaria for land borders.
