200 thousand dollar fine for Samuel Eto'o
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that former footballer Samuel Eto'o, who also played in Turkey for a period, has been fined 200 thousand dollars for violating the principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship.
CAF has announced its decision regarding the disciplinary and manipulation investigation launched in August 2023 concerning Cameroonian Football Federation President Samuel Eto'o.
The statement indicated that Eto'o, who entered into a paid ambassadorship agreement with a betting company, seriously violated CAF's principles of ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship and was fined 200 thousand dollars.
Regarding the investigation into allegations that Victoria United in Cameroon manipulated matches to be promoted to the 1st League, CAF reported that it concluded there was insufficient evidence of match manipulation.
The former Cameroonian striker Eto'o, who played for teams such as Mallorca, Barcelona, Inter, Chelsea, Everton, and Sampdoria during his football career and won many championships, played for Antalyaspor and Konyaspor in Turkey.
The 40-year-old Eto'o, who is the top scorer for the Cameroon National Team with 56 goals in 118 matches, had won two Africa Cup of Nations titles and an Olympic gold medal.
