25,000 heatstroke cases recorded in India: Death toll exceeds 60

India is battling extreme heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that thermometers showed 39 degrees Celsius yesterday in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the eastern state of Odisha.

According to the statement, at least 8 people have lost their lives in the state in 72 hours due to the heatwave. However, it is estimated that the death toll is much higher, as heat-related deaths in rural areas are not being recorded.

Temperature records have been broken in India this year. Many regions of the country have experienced uninterrupted heatwaves for two weeks.

While no clear data has been released regarding deaths caused by heatstroke in India, where thermometers have shown 45-50 degrees Celsius since May, it is estimated that more than 60 people have lost their lives.

25 THOUSAND HEATSTROKE CASES

According to the Indian Ministry of Health, approximately 25,000 heatstroke cases were recorded in the country between March and May.

The India Meteorological Department announced that the heatwave will continue to affect some regions in northwestern and eastern India for the next 5 days.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid going outside during peak heat hours and to consume plenty of fluids due to the high temperatures.
