27 MPs in France call for recognition of the State of Palestine

Sabrina Sebaihi, a Green Party MP in France, shared a joint letter on her X social media account written by 27 members of the France-Palestine International Research Group to President Emmanuel Macron.

The letter, which states that France, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the "driving force behind the European Union (EU)," has a responsibility to work for peace, noted that a "diplomatic process that will end the conflicts and pave the way for a two-state solution" must be restarted.

The letter referred to the draft resolution submitted by Algeria to the 15-member UNSC, which demanded full UN membership for Palestine, and which was rejected after permanent member the US cast a "no" vote; it recalled that France voted in favor of the resolution, "remaining loyal to its diplomatic stance."

The letter emphasized the importance of Palestine not remaining a simple "non-member observer state" but being recognized as a full member state of the UN so that the international community can move toward peace, and called on the French government to recognize the State of Palestine.

The letter demanded the implementation of the aforementioned draft resolution and stated that the goal is the establishment of a democratic and sovereign Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel.
