Three aircraft belonging to the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team of the Italian Air Force collided in mid-air during an air show.
A disaster was narrowly averted during an air show in Italy. Three MB-339 aircraft belonging to the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team of the Italian Air Force collided in mid-air during a demonstration flight over the island of Pantelleria.
Following the accident, all three aircraft made emergency landings, with one of the planes veering off the runway during landing.
Emergency teams responded quickly to the incident. While two pilots escaped the accident unharmed, one pilot was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken leg.
While the cause of the accident is not yet known, the Italian press reported that it may have been caused by a bird strike. It was stated that the aircraft sustained serious damage due to the accident.
