3 people accused of planning 9/11 reach deal with US: They have become informants

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid bin Attash, and Mustafa al-Hawsawi, who are accused of planning the September 11, 2001, attacks in the US, have become informants.

According to a written statement from the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), the three individuals held at Guantanamo have reached a plea agreement with military prosecutors.

In its statement, the Pentagon noted that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid bin Attash, and Mustafa al-Hawsawi reached an agreement as a result of negotiations with military prosecutors, but stated that the details of the agreement would not be made public at this time.

The New York Times (NYT) newspaper, citing a statement sent by the prosecution to the families of the 9/11 victims, reported that these individuals have agreed to plead guilty to the charges against them in exchange for receiving life sentences instead of facing the death penalty.

According to the report, the three individuals, who have been held at Guantanamo since 2003, reached the agreement with military prosecutors following approximately 27 months of negotiations.

Reports in the American media highlighted that lawsuits filed by the families of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks are ongoing and that these individuals may be able to object to the agreement in question.
