3 tourists killed in armed attack in Afghanistan confirmed to be Spanish

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the foreigners who died in the armed attack in Bamyan were Spanish citizens, and that one of the 4 foreigners injured in the attack was also Spanish.

The Ministry stated that all necessary assistance is being provided to the Spaniards killed and injured in the attack in Afghanistan and their families through the work carried out by the Consular Emergency Unit.

Spain closed its embassy in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, in August 2021.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who made a statement regarding the incident on his X account, said, "I am shocked by the news that Spanish tourists have been killed in Afghanistan. I am following the developments moment by moment. The Consular Emergency Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to provide all necessary assistance. I would like to convey my deepest condolences to their families and friends."

Abdulmateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior of the Afghan interim government, had stated in his announcement regarding the armed attack in Bamyan province that, according to initial reports, 4 people, 3 of whom were foreign nationals, had died in the attack.

Stating that 7 people, 4 of whom were foreign nationals, were also injured in the attack, Qani reported that 4 suspects had been detained at the scene.
