3,500-year-old artifact accidentally broken by 4-year-old child is back on display at museum
In Israel, a 4-year-old child accidentally knocked over and shattered a 3,500-year-old jar during a museum visit. The Hecht Museum in Haifa has announced that the restoration of the rare Bronze Age artifact is complete and it is back on display. The child and their family have been invited back to the museum.
A 4-year-old child visiting a museum with their family in Israel had accidentally shattered a 3,500-year-old jar.
The Hecht Museum in Haifa stated to the BBC that the jar dates back to the Bronze Age, between 2200 and 1500 BC, and is a rare artifact.
The museum had previously stated that they displayed the item without glass because they believe that displaying archaeological finds in an "unobstructed" manner provides a "special appeal."
The child's father explained that his son had picked up the jar because he was curious about what was inside, and then dropped it.
'A NICE DISTRACTION FROM THE WAR IN GAZA'
The repaired ancient jar has begun to be displayed at the museum again.
Inbal Rivlin, director of the museum affiliated with the University of Haifa, said the incident was a "nice distraction from the ongoing war in Gaza."
Rivlin said, "He is just a child. So I think it touched the hearts of people in Israel and around the world in some way."
CHILD AND FAMILY INVITED BACK
The child and their family were invited back to the museum to examine the restoration.
Roee Shafir, a restoration expert at the museum, said the repairs were quite straightforward because all the pieces belonged to a single complete jar.
Experts stated that they used 3D technology, high-resolution videos, and special adhesives to reconstruct the ancient jar.
