39th US President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

In a written statement released by the Carter Center, founded by the Carter family, it was announced that the former US President, who had lived for a century, "passed away at his home in the town of Plains, Georgia."

The statement, shared on the social media platform X, noted that Carter, who "surpassed a century to become the longest-living US President," had been under hospice care at his home for more than a year.

US President-elect Donald Trump expressed that they "owe a debt of gratitude" to Jimmy Carter in a statement on his Truth Social account.

Trump stated, "The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a critical time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. We are all grateful to him for that."

WHO IS JIMMY CARTER?

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, won the presidential race as a Democrat in 1976 while serving as the Governor of Georgia and continued to carry out diplomatic missions well into his 80s.

Serving as president from 1977 to 1981, Carter made significant contributions to US foreign policy, including on sensitive issues such as Middle East conflicts.

Carter, who wrote 32 books throughout his life and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, is also known for his efforts toward a two-state solution in Palestine.

In a written statement on June 2, 2020, Carter emphasized that Israel's annexation plan would amount to the illegal seizure of Palestinian land, stating, "Israel's plan to annex 30 percent of the West Bank is contrary to the current status of the occupied territories as determined by international agreements and constitutes a violation of international law, which prohibits the acquisition of territory by force."
