417 people lost their lives in traffic accidents during the Nowruz holiday.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Timur Hüseyni, Head of the Iranian Police Traffic Department, provided information regarding traffic accidents that occurred across the country during the Nowruz period.

Hüseyni stated, "Between March 14 and March 24, 417 people lost their lives and 11 thousand 392 people were injured in traffic accidents."

The Iranian official noted that the accidents occurred due to reasons such as fatigue, lack of sleep, inattention, and speeding.

According to the Solar Hijri calendar used in Iran, March 21 is considered the first day of the year. In the country, where a 4-day official holiday is observed for Nowruz, the general public takes a vacation of approximately 2 weeks. During these days, when family visits and trips take place, an increase in traffic accidents is observed due to the rise in density on intercity roads.
