5.0 magnitude earthquake in Tibet: Flood alert issued

A series of natural disasters are occurring in China's border region with Nepal. A 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Tibet Autonomous Region, where a landslide took place yesterday.

In a statement made by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), it was stated that the earthquake occurred in northern Tibet at a depth of 10 kilometers.

China's state news agency Xinhua reported that a level 5 flood alert has been activated due to the risk of a barrier lake overflowing in Tibet.

According to Xinhua, the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources has instructed local authorities to monitor the barrier lake and rainfall. The China Earthquake Networks Center had reported yesterday that a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Nagqu region of Tibet.

389 deaths have been confirmed in Nepal so far

In Nepal, on the Tibetan border, a flood disaster occurred yesterday when a flood caused by a glacier breaking off in the Himalayas reached the Bhotekoshi River. The Nepal Police reported that 389 people have lost their lives in the flood so far. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of Nepal announced that a total of 910 people are missing.
