7.3 magnitude earthquake in Vanuatu! Tsunami warning issued!
A 7.3 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Vanuatu, located in the South Pacific Ocean. While the risk of a tsunami persists following the quake, the destructive effects of the tremors were felt intensely, particularly around the capital, Port Vila.
The island nation of Vanuatu, located in the South Pacific Ocean, has been shaken by a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Following the quake, which was felt with destructive force particularly in and around the capital, Port Vila, authorities issued warnings regarding the risk of a tsunami.

EPICENTER VERY CLOSE TO PORT VILA
According to a statement by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the ocean, approximately 30 kilometers west of the capital, Port Vila. Warnings were issued regarding the potential for tsunami waves following this tremor, which occurred at a depth of 43 kilometers (27 miles).

IS THERE A TSUNAMI DANGER?
The USGS reported that coastal regions, in particular, should remain vigilant against tsunami waves following the earthquake. Although no major tsunami wave has been detected yet, experts point out that even small-scale waves that may form could pose a danger in coastal areas.

Vanuatu is a country consisting of 80 islands with a population of approximately 330,000. Located on the earthquake and volcanic belt known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, the country is frequently shaken by earthquakes, and such natural disasters pose significant risks. Authorities are calling on the local population to remain cautious and be prepared for the risk of a tsunami.

ARE THERE ANY CASUALTIES IN THE EARTHQUAKE?
Katie Greenwood, the Fiji-based regional head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, stated that the damage is widespread, including collapsed buildings in the Port Vila city center and damaged infrastructure in provincial areas. She said that Red Cross volunteers are ready to assist the affected communities.
Based on preliminary information from field teams and local media reports, she added that at least one person has lost their life in the hospital.
