TSUNAMI WARNING LIFTED
The tsunami warning issued for many regions following the earthquake, which was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) at a depth of 20 kilometers at 09:43 local time, was lifted in the following hours. However, in a statement made by PHIVOLCS, the local population was warned to remain vigilant against aftershocks and to stay away from coastal areas.
"UN READY TO ASSIST"
United Nations (UN) Coordinator in the Philippines, Arnauld Peral, stated that UN teams in the country are assessing the situation and will cooperate with relevant government agencies, adding, "UN agencies are ready to assist if the Philippine government needs it."
