7.4 magnitude earthquake in Chile

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake has occurred in the north of the South American country of Chile.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was San Pedro de Atacama in the Antofagasta region.

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at a depth of approximately 117 kilometers.

NO TSUNAMI WARNING ISSUED

While no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake, no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

It was reported that the earthquake was also felt in the southern Peruvian regions of Tacna and Arequipa, causing panic among the public.

In a statement from the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), it was stated that the potential damage from the earthquake is being assessed.

In a statement from the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA), it was reported that the necessary conditions for a tsunami warning on the Chilean coast were not met.
