8 Austrian soldiers serving in UNIFIL injured in rocket attack

Soldiers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured in a rocket attack on the Naqoura Camp near the Israeli border in Lebanon.

In a statement issued by UNIFIL, it was stated: “A rocket hit the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, causing a fire in a vehicle maintenance workshop.

Peacekeepers were not in shelters at the time. Some peacekeepers sustained minor injuries. The rocket was fired from the north of the UNIFIL headquarters, likely by Hezbollah or an affiliated group. An investigation into the incident has been launched.”

In a statement released by the Austrian Ministry of Defense, it was reported that 8 Austrian soldiers were slightly injured in the rocket attack. The statement condemned the attack and noted that it was not yet clear who carried it out. The statement added, “8 Austrian army soldiers from the UNIFIL contingent were injured today at 12:58 p.m. by a rocket that hit the Naqoura Camp. None of the injuries are serious.”
