A first in Cologne
In Germany, Venloer Street, one of the busiest streets in the city of Cologne, has been specially illuminated for the first time for the month of Ramadan.
With days left until the month of Ramadan, special preparations and events are being organized in different parts of the world. In the German city of Cologne, Venloer Street, where thousands of people shop every day and where many Turkish merchants have businesses, has been decorated with lights reading "Ramadan Kareem" (Blessed Ramadan).
The special Ramadan lights, hung through the initiative of an organization called "The Ramadan Project," have attracted great interest, and speeches made at the opening ceremony emphasized unity and solidarity.

"THESE ARE PROJECTS INSPIRED BY LONDON"
Rukiye Bektaş, one of the event's organizers, stated that they have two projects, namely iftar and lighting, saying, "We call these 'Ramadan Light' and 'Open Iftar.' We have two separate projects. These are projects inspired by London."

Bektaş said, "Last year, our younger sibling saw the iftars and Ramadan activities there during an internship in London, and we wanted to bring that here. It is a project that has come about through our own initiative."
