A first: Pope Francis to attend G7 Leaders' Summit

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced the topics to be addressed at the G7 Leaders' Summit, which she will host in Borgo Egnazia from June 13-15.

Stating that artificial intelligence contains as many risks as it does advantages, Prime Minister Meloni described AI as "the greatest anthropological challenge of our time."

Stating that as the G7 Presidency, they want to draw attention to the Rome Call for AI Ethics initiated by the Vatican at the G7 Leaders' Summit, Meloni announced that Pope Francis will attend the session on artificial intelligence at the G7 Leaders' Summit.

Meloni said, "I thank the Pope for accepting Italy's invitation. I believe that his presence will provide a decisive contribution to the definition of a regulatory, ethical, and cultural framework for artificial intelligence."

Noting that this is the first time a Pope will attend a G7 Leaders' Summit, Meloni stated that Pope Francis will also participate in a session on social assistance, where other invited non-G7 countries will also be present.
