According to US senator, Israel's attacks will be seen as 'genocide'

Democratic Senator from Massachusetts Warren evaluated the legal implications of Israel's attacks in Gaza during a meeting she attended in her constituency the other day.

According to a report on the American website Politico, Warren stated regarding the ongoing "genocide" case at the ICJ, "If you apply the law, I believe that they will find that this is genocide, and they have plenty of evidence for it."

According to the report, this speech, which Warren gave at a meeting held at the Islamic Center of Boston in the Wayland area on Friday, resonated on social media after the video was shared on Monday.

The US senator's press office, however, stated that Warren was not making a statement on "whether Israel is committing genocide," but rather offering her personal legal assessment regarding the ongoing case at the ICJ.

Many users who supported Warren's statement regarding Gaza on social media questioned "why the US is still sending weapons to Israel," stating that the US Congress should take action on this matter.

On December 29, 2023, the Republic of South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice on the grounds that it violated the 1948 United Nations (UN) Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
